Summer Hockey Update

While the winter hockey season is over, many have been enjoying their hockey in various summer hockey options available.

Many of our juniors have been playing indoor hockey, with four Southern teams taking part in the indoor hockey run by Hockey Equipe at Skateworld. These teams include many players new to indoor. A huge thanks to the coaches of these teams: Hugh Stimson and Steve Georgealis, Lachie Eddington, Chris Silvers and Therese Braunsch.  The under 14 black team is second on the ladder, based on goal difference, while the other 14 team is putting up a strong showing as well. The under 12s, with quite a few under 10s playing are third on the ladder, with a HUGE goal difference.  The under 16s are having fun while not quite seeing the results they would like. The Hockey Equipe competition finishes for the Christmas break the week of 15th December and restarts in February.

Four junior teams are taking part in the Hockey Vic competition at Dandenong, thanks to the coaches at Dandenong – Pearcey, Peter Paice/Stephen Blatherwick, Ken Sandars/Alison  Thomas. The under 15 shield will finish third on the ladder with a couple of games letting them down, while the under 13 pennant with all new players to indoor had a draw on the weekend beating  the undefeated Hawthorn team – Congratulations. The under 13 shield team is also third on the ladder with one round to go.

The under 12 group have been playing summer fun hockey with Bayside on a Thursday night at Farm Rd.  With great thanks to Julian Pratt as head coach for the teams, with the help of Michael Gow, Jess Pratt and Chris Abaniel. This is the last week of summer hockey for this group.

The summer 9s competition has been taking place on Wednesday night with 6 teams playing, while on Tuesday and Friday nights Jesse and his band of coaches – Matt, Josh and Nathan have been running McKenzie’s Upskilling clinics, helping our juniors in areas such as: Drag flicking, defending, tomahawks, goal scoring, 3d and over heads and  ball carrying. This has been a great opportunity for all juniors to gain extra skills over the summer.
