Southern United Hockey Club

About us

Welcome to the Southern United Hockey Club

Nestled in Melbourne’s Bayside suburbs, Southern United Hockey Club is the largest in the city’s south east, fielding more than 35 teams in Juniors, Men’s, Women’s and Master’s competitions.  With home grounds located in the City of Bayside and City of Kingston municipalities, Southern attracts an array of players of all abilities from across Melbourne, as well as interstate and overseas.   We offer specialist coaching, spearheaded by our Men’s Premier League coach Jesse Workman and our Women’s Premier League coach Matt L’Huillier.   The Southern United Hockey Academy, established to fast-track the skills of players in our junior section, also runs during the pre-season under the tutelage of our MPL Coach Jesse Workman assisted by some of our PL players.

Founded following the merger of the Moorabbin Districts and Sandringham hockey clubs in 2006, Southern has established a set of core values that have helped shape a unique identity and culture. We are passionate about hockey, our members and being the best club we can be – on and off the field. This is a vision shared at all levels of the club, from the playing group through to the administration.

We are a family club and invite you to be a part of the Southern United community.

Southern United Hockey Club Rules

The club would like to sincerely thank club member and former Juniors Section Leader, Paul Duggan, for his input in 2011 to re-draft the rules of the Southern United Hockey Club.  A redraft occurred again in 2013 to comply with new incorporation rules. A copy is below for all members to read.

Club Song

(to the North Melbourne AFL theme song)

Hearts to hearts and hands to hands
Beneath the Southern sky we stand
The colours of our native land
United! United!

Out they come, Out they come, Out they come to play
Just for recreations sake to pass the time away
Lots of fun, heaps of fun, enjoy yourself today
Southern teams are hard to beat when they come out to play.

So join in the chorus and sing it one and all
Join in the chorus, for Southern’s on the ball
Good old Southern, they are champions you’ll agree
Southern will be Premiers just you wait and see.
