Southern United Hockey Club

Round 12 Seniors

Premier League Match Updates

A very cold Sunday at Farm Rd for the matches against Yarra.

The men’s teams got there in the end with a 3-2 win, thanks to a huge save by Ed in the last seconds. While the women who were up 1-0 at half time, ended up with a 3-3 draw with a goal fest in the first fifteen minutes of the second half. Congratulations to Emilia Downes on your first premier league game.

The reserves teams also had mixed results with the women’s team going down 3-1 while the men finished the game with a 5-2 win after the score being 0-0 at half time.

Men’s Match Updates

Pennant A  is the closest competition imaginable with six points between 3rd and 2nd bottom.  The game against MUHC was crucial and the club pulled together to produce a great 3-0 win, great to see you back Paul and Lachie, with goals from Cam Paice, Craig Hardham and Tim Dale. With the finish of the holidays Christian van der Merwe was also back and played a great game for the team. Great to see the support of so many down there for the pennant A boys.

Pennant D had a very cold game at Brunswick where the result did not go their way. For many players in the team who have only played on turf, the hilly pitch was “challenging”.

Men’s Pennant E continue their great season with a strong 4-0 win over Waverley, with Max Eddington celebrating his 15th birthday with his first goal playing senior hockey. This win keeping them third on the ladder, seven points ahead of fourth.

Men’s Pennant F also had a win against Waverley, keeping their top of the ladder position with James Erbacher and Philip Clarke scoring two apiece.

Men’s Metro A  finished the trio of games against Waverley with a 5-2 win at HHF giving the Southern teams three wins from the three games.

Women’s Match Updates

With 35 or so women unavailable this weekend, it was going to be a tough call for our women’s teams, but they managed to pull together and produce some good results.

Women’s pennant B  definitely had the short straw with 6.45pm game on Saturday night at the hockey centre – what were they thinking? With only five members of the pennant B team available many helped out with players from everywhere helping Warren get the team together, and in typical pennant B style left the last goal to the last few minutes win 2-1 over Hawthorn. Thanks Mel for filling in goals, and goals to Traleen and Alisia.

Women’s pennant F  met the very very slick Caroline Springs and with some Caroline Springs goals in the last minute the score line looked worse than the game, with a 6-1 loss. Only the second goal scored against Caroline Springs for the season, great to have you back for a few weeks Kate Sleeth, well done. Thanks Sammy for continuing your double up GK role.

Women’s Metro A continue undefeated with a 6-1 win over Knox with Molly O’Neill continuing her amazing goal scoring run with four goals, and two to her mum Jane. Jane and Molly have both now scored thirteen goals for the season in Metro A, while Molly has also scored fourteen in her under 14 girls team. WOW. The team has a goal difference of 58 for the year so far.

Women’s Metro B finished with a 5-1 win over Waverley with two goals to Eliza Maginnes.
