At Farm Rd, once again the under 14 south started the evening. This team coached by the super coach Warren and with great support from many parents are showing us all what hockey is about, having fun, playing a great game with friends. Keep on going team. The u14 shield girls played a strong game against Donnie, the girls had their chances and the score could easily have been closer going down 3-1. The under 16 shield girls played Waverley. The Waverley girls have had a great season so far, but the under 16 girls put up a massive fight, with help from Puck in the second half, to draw 1-1. Great work girls. Last on at Farm Rd on Friday night, the Under 16 red team took on Knox. Thanks to Cameron, Luke, Alex and Lucas helping out for their huge 8-0 win over Knox.
In a round of interesting results in the under 16 south, the black team took on the untouchable St Bedes Blue, 7 matches, 7 wins, 8 points ahead of second on the ladder and they DREW. Brilliant work team and Greg, thanks for helping out Anthony.
The 14 and 16 mixed shield struggled with the traffic nightmare to get to Essendon. The teams managed to get there, just. The 14 mixed shield were first on, and in another very low scoring game went down 1-0 with Essendon scoring late in the second half. The change to the competition structure this year with Shield A and Shield B does seem to have made the shield competition more even with very little separating the eight teams. The 16 mixed shield had much of the play but struggled on the conversion, in the end winning 2-1.
At Mentone 14 mixed pennant after a good start finished in a very close match 3-2 down, with Ashton scoring both goals. Thanks Isaac for putting on the goalie kit at half time when Ollie was unwell. You did a great job.
The under 12 girls shield suffered their first loss for the season against Donnie, going down 3-1. Their strong start to the season sees them still on top of the ladder. The under 12 boys shield had a strong 5-1 win against Waverley, great work boys on keeping on going in a tough season. While the under 12 boys pennant team went down to Mentone.
The under 12 district competition in 2018 is a half field competition, similar to the under 10 half field. This year they are run as term competitions, with the weekend being the last week of term 2, and the term 3 competition starting 21st July.
The biggest news of the junior weekend happened on Sunday when our under 12 boys district team had a win against Maccabi. Amazing work team, thanks Amy for your hard work and a big thanks to Chris for taking over the team. Congratulations to all.
The under 12 girls district finished on a bit of a down with missing players and forfeiting their match. They have had a strong season and finish at the top of the ladder for the competition.
The under 10 girls has also had a great season under the great care of Jem with a nice win over Mentone, while the under 10 boys strengthened each week, going down to Mentone on the weekend.
The new school term will start the new competition for the half field teams.
The under 10 quarter field teams which play each week on a Saturday morning against Bayside and Mentone have also finished for the season, with their next games also on 21st July. |
