Premier League Round 11

Not quite the perfect round out at Burra, but not bad.

The women’s reserves made it clear why they are 8 points on the ladder with their strong 4-1 win. The women’s firsts next on the billing had a tough game in the fourth vs fifth game with the game finishing with one apiece.

The men’s firsts ladder positions suggest that well, Southern should come out ahead with Burra an unbelievable twelfth on the ladder, but it is Burra, and with the Zull boys back and Tim Cross. But the ladder positions did predict the result with Southern 5-0.

The Burra reserves have had a better season and were two places ahead of our reserves, but the team were on a mission, finishing 3-0 over Burra.

Men & Women’s Pennant Round 11

Congratulations to Puck Okhuizen on your first game senior game, a goal in Women’s pennant B in their 6-0 win against Altona, where 6 different people scored in a good passing game.

Women’s pennant E also continued their successful season with a win 2-1 over top of the table Camberwell. Magic. Keeping second on the ladder, but now only 3 points behind the close to untouchable Camberwell.

In the afternoon of hockey on Saturday at Farm Rd. The Camberwell Pennant E team with only one loss for the season were too strong for our men’s pennant E team. The men’s pennant D team also had a tough afternoon against Footscray going down 4-1.

The men’s pennant A team continues to confuse opposition with their high performances against the top teams. The team had a 3-1 win over 3rd on the ladder Waverley with Jesse Workman scoring two, and Jesse Mulder one. The win closes up the top six teams, keeping them sixth on the ladder, but now only one point off fourth and three points separating third and sixth.

The men’s pennant C team travelled to Knox sandpit, for a great game where the passing, even on the sand was a pleasure to watch, the result was also great 8-0 win, with Liam Eddington scoring a hat trick, two to Paul Layzell, and Andre Fernandez scoring his first goal in seniors, keeping their second on the ladder for the moment.

Men & Women’s Metro – Round 11

The goal keeper challenges continue for women’s teams continued. Thanks Mel for stepping in as DGK for the metro A ladies. The Metro A competition continues to be close with top of the ladder on 19 points and three teams, including Southern and OHA on 18. The 1-1 draw between the two, with Jane scoring one, continues to keep the ladder close. This weekend was the normal horror of availability of players due to the school holidays, thanks to all those that helped out. The family always first to help out came to the fore, the McNess family, with both Kate and Bec McNess taking to the pitch in the women’s met B game, after Bec helped fill in for the 14 girls on Friday night, and both Kate and Will helped out the other 16 south team on Friday night. The first senior women’s game for Bec, congratulations Bec. While the Stansby family were also out in full force for the game with Allison, Lulu and Evie (in goals) in the 1-0 win over Waverley.

Men’s Met A with David Fisher and Hayden Jones continuing to boost the team, had an 8-1 win against David scoring four. Men’s met B had the week off with Casey pulling out of the comp.

Junior’s Round 9

Firstly a huge thanks to the people who stepped up to umpire when the HV allocated umpire pulled out at 4 o’clock Friday – Jason Jansz, and Trevor Jones, It was greatly appreciated.

This round traditionally is the horror round for player availability with the first night of school holidays, and with some schools on holidays for a week already, this year was no exception. But we did get all teams on the park, thanks to all the hard work of our age co-ordinators. Thanks also to all the players who moved around and doubled up to help out.

Juniors now have two weeks off for the school holidays, a great time to reflect where we are. The juniors are performing well, and having fun. Two teams remain undefeated – under 16 mixed shield and mixed pennant, with a large portion of our junior teams sitting in the four. Credit to all the teams that are out there having fun, enjoying and learning.

A big night at Farm Rd, was slightly reduced with Mentone forfeiting their Under 18 match, giving the black team their first win.

The under 14 mixed shield team started the night at Farm Rd with Dave Ephraums standing in for Josh as coach. The result – a much needed 2-1 win over Brumbies with a neat goal to Ed and Lachie, with the defence of the team continuing to star. The win keeps them fourth on the ladder on equialisation points.

The 16 mixed shield were next on the night against the fast, fit and big Donnie team. With Craig winging his way to South Africa and Davin as support crew for Carlin also flitting away, Lachie Paice stepped in to help the team. Not the best game by the team, but a 2-1 win on the board – nice goal Dom with hard work in the shemozzle paying off and a great goal by Nick to get the first score on the board. The team remaining top of the ladder, four points ahead of Waverley.

Dom Eddy scoring

The under 18 red team, filled with black team players to help out took away with the game against Knox in an 8-1 win, Jarrad Camille and Cooper Green Shiel making their mark with four and three goals apeice.

Out in the Eastern “suburbs” 14 and 16 pennant headed to Casey. The 14 pennant team, suddenly with only 10 players, came away with a big win 4-0. The team are doing a great job, third on the ladder, above Bayside. The 16 pennant team continued the trend in a challenging match against bottom of the ladder Casey for a a 6-2 win. This super team remain undefeated, 7+ points ahead of second on the ladder.

Under 14 girls at Brumbies were helped Bec McNess and India Rose Ioannou from under 12 girls together with Issy Figureira from 14 south helping out. Thanks.

Under 14 south were first on at Dendy St against a strong Mornington team, where the Southern players are continuing to improve and the score did not do them justice. Danny had a strong game with some great saves, congratulations to Oscar on scoring your first goal, and a special mention to Wean who keeps putting in so hard.

Chris Abaniel doing his best to stay dry

On Saturday morning the under 12 shield girls, like many teams this weekend played with 10 players to take the points 1-0. The under 12 boys shield and pennant had the home games in the cold wet conditions. With many away the teams were undermanned, a great credit to the boys on the results. Under 12 boys shield went down 3-0 to TEM, while the 12 pennant boys, with quite a bit of help from the half field players, gave Southern a third win against Casey for the weekend in the 2-1 win, with goals to Hamish and Lachlan Thomas. Great work boys.
