Another round of great results for some of the junior teams, with a large number of teams playing Camberwell.
At Farm Rd on Friday night, the evening started with the Under 14 pennant team. After a great win against Mornington last week, the team had momentum. This week playing Bayside, at half time the game was even. The coaches – Bridie, Charley and Georgia, must have said some magic words to the boys and they came out firing taking the game to a 5-1 win, with a hat trick to Ashton Williams. The 14 pennant are guaranteed a spot in the finals now, third on the ladder and nine points ahead of fourth place Bayside, with three games to go.
Under 14 mixed shield was up against Camberwell. A great game of hockey, with neither team able to score, finishing with the shield’s team fourth draw for the season, keeping their third position on the ladder.
Under 16 mixed shield also up against Camberwell guaranteed their spot in the top two with a 4-0 win. Two great goals from Josie.
Last of the night was the Under 18 red team, top of the ladder against Mentone’s team second on the ladder. A tough game, with the Southern crew finishing 2-1 up over Mentone with Southern scoring the two goals in the last minutes of the game. The 18 red team now seven points ahead of second and third on the ladder.
The Friday night girls teams worked together on Friday night. The 14 girls finished a tough game against Camberwell, and three girls Puck, Brylee and Ellen then rushed to the hockey centre to play the second half of the 16 girls game. The 16 girls finished 2-1 down against second on the ladder TEM, a pretty good result with a team short of players for the first half.
At Dendy St the 16 black team started the night in a tough game against Bayside where Bayside were just too strong. Next on the agenda was the top of the ladder 16 pennant against Waverley. A 4-0 win guaranteeing Southern the minor premiership. Great work guys.
The under 16 read team playing short, a 1-1 draw with St Bedes. The two 16 south teams remain fifth and sixth on the ladder of ten teams, a great result so far. While the under 18 black team had a tough game against St Bedes. The incredible under 14 south team also had a very tough game against Dandenong. Danny in goals must be congratulated on his game in very trying circumstances.
Saturday morning was exciting most for the growth we have seen in the quarter field players and the half field teams over the year.
The under 12 boys district team have really hit their straps now with a 5-1 win over Mentone, undefeated this season. Welcome to Southern Will.
The under 10 boys also had a strong 3-0 win, for them over Waverley. The team is growing in confidence every week. Great work by Keiran two goals, and a great fight at either end of the pitch.
The under 10 girls also improving each week a 2-2 draw against Mentone.
At Camberwell the under 12 pennant boys had a pleasing 2-1 win, while the under 12 shield girls finished with a 1-1 draw. The girls remain on the top of the ladder by 3 points.
At Farm Rd on Saturday morning the Camberwell might was too much for our under 12 shield boys. With six junior games against Camberwell for the weekend, two wins, two draws and two losses. |
