THE summer indoor hockey season for the 10 Southern United teams competing in the Hockey Equipe competition has finished, with the Under 12 and 16 teams taking the premiership.
The Under 16 Southern silver team won the grand final in a tight match against the Southern United red team.
With the score tied at 3-3, the silver team scored from a penalty corner in the dying stages.
The Under 12 black team played a great final against Mentone after losing to the same side 4-2 in the homeand-away rounds. It was a great turnaround in the match that counted.
In other exciting news at Farm Rd, four Southern United players headed to Europe on the weekend with the Victorian men’s team.
Nathan Ephraums, a member of the Australian Under 21 team, Craig Marais, Brad Marais and Josh Mulder — all members of the Australian Futures squad — join the other Victorian players touring Europe. It’s a great opportunity for these young players — the tour provides athletes with quality international competition, international travel and vital development opportunities to European structure and methods of play.
They play games against Dutch HoofdKlasse teams (the HoodfKlasse league is arguably the strongest domestic competition in the world) and teams in Antwerp.
