Match Report: Womens SL2 vs CV Blazers Round 2

Round 2 and this week the girls came up against the unknown opposition of CV Blazers. Strength, composure and patience were what Southern set out to achieve.

We started strong and managed to maintain the majority of the possession for the first half. Ball movement and communication was strong. The first blow was struck by Tasma Ritchie with a nice deflection off the post. This was quickly followed by another goal from Tasma and then a third from Tamsin Nelson. The girls looked comfortable and continued to consistently penetrate CV Blazers defense.

A 3-0 lead at half time was comforting but by no means meant it was time to relax. Going into the second half, Lazy set the girls the task of maintaining that same level of determination and persistence.

Southern continued to dominate. Tasma added her third followed by a second from Tamsin…The Tas show was back on. Danielle Luskie put her first one in for the season and the game finished off with a Captain’s goal by Sarah Ashworth off one of many short corners.

It was great to be able to see the girls’ strong preseason pay off on the field. Their teamwork, movement on and off the ball and skills were fantastic to watch. When your goalie doesn’t get a touch in the game (except to fetch the ball for a 16) you know you’ve done something right. It was an excellent team performance with a special mention to Emma Cole for an outstanding second half.

Let’s hope the girls can continue their winning streak this weekend at Farm Rd against last seasons’ rivals, West Vic. I hope to see you all there supporting them!
