Southern United Hockey Club

Weekend Wrapup – June 16th/17th

WPC

Played top placed MUHC and were really unlucky not to score in a game that see sawed from end to end but finally went down 0-2 in a much improved performance. Not far off a win.

WSL

Took on their competition’s leaders Hawthorn and went behind 0-2 fairly early in the piece conceding two penalty corners that probably should have been cleared. SUHC finally picked up the tempo of their opponents and launched several promising forays into the Hawthorn defensive  half but nevertheless trailed 0-3 at half time. The game ebbed and flowed in the second half with the visitors finally prevailing with a 0-4 scoreline that probably did not reflect SUHC’s overall competitiveness on the day. WSL is currently 5th on a crowded ladder.

MSL

Came back to some form with a 5-1 win over the hitherto unbeaten MUHC “Shoppers”. SUHC started this game with all guns blazing and dominated the students for most of the first half going into the break 2-1 up. However the first 20 minutes of the second half saw the visitors grab the initiative back and keep SUHC hemmed in it’s own half and under significant defensive pressure; but all to no avail for the hapless Shoppers who in the last 15 minutes conceded 3 goals as SUHC regained the ascendency and the match. MSL is 4th on the same points as 2nd and 3rd.

MPE

Hosted Camberwell and put on a dynamic 9-0 demolition of the visitors to go to the top of the ladder in a display that featured a virtuoso 4 goal performance from Tim Dale and a fine hat trick from James Erbacher.

MMS3

Beat St Bedes 6-4 in a high scoring affair to stay in touch with the four.

Other scores:

MPD beat Greensborough 2-1 away to go to 3rd on the ladder.

WPB beat Mentone away 3-1 to go 4th on the ladder. Very well done ladies!!

MPA came from 0-3 down to beat league leaders Waverley 5-3 at the SNHC. An amazing performance from this young team who are now 2nd on the ladder.
