With only 4 rounds remaining, competition for finals spots is heating up with over half of SUHC’s senior teams still well in contention for some September action .
MSL travelled to Essendon and started brightly and launched several attacking forays into the Essendon circle but to avail. In what developed into a tight and competitive half of hockey, honours were shared and SUHC’s prospects for a good result against the clear league leaders looked good at half time. However this was not to be as Essendon took control in the second half and ran out to be 3 goal to nil winners. Meanwhile in another part of town, MUHC upset Kew 7-5, so SUHC remains 2nd on the ladder despite this loss.
MPA played MCC away and won 4-2 with a brace from Lachlan Eddington. MPA is now 3rd on the ladder with a little help from Essendon who beat 4th placed Altona.
MPD edged into the four with a 4-2 win over Doncaster at home with a brace to Liam Eddington this time.
MPE dispatched TEM 5-0 away to consolidate 2nd spot.
M1SE restored Mike Stansby’s faith with a 2-1 win over Monash at home to be 7th.
M2S beat Knox 2-1 at the SNHC and are 5th.
M3S defeated OHA 5-1 at home to be 5th on the ladder
M4S had a well earned bye.
WSL Played arch-rival Powerhouse/St Kilda at a wet and windy Albert Park on Saturday afternoon. After conceding early, SUHC got things back to square by half time and started the second stanza with confidence. However despite controlling play for significant periods, PH/Stk proved to be more efficient on the scoreboard and took the match 4-2. A disappointing loss that has seen SUHC drop from 2nd to 4th in a very tight league.
WPB went down 1-2 to MCC away and are now 5th.
WPC beat Altona away 4-2 but remain 10th. A few more wins could see this team get off the bottom.
WM2SE enjoyed the bye and remain on top of the ladder.
WM3SE drew 1 all with SWHC at Dendy Street and are 6th
