Greg Edwards was honoured with life membership at our Senior Presentation night. Thanks Greg for your service to the club.
Greg Edwards
- 425 games player for SUHC
- Had two stints with the club – 1998 to ~2000 with Moorabbin and then resumed back in 2006 with SUHC
- Served on the committee for in the club’s early years ~ 2007 to 2014 when we were few. Vice president for some of those years, organising fundraising and marketing
- Establish and ran the uniform shop for many years and was instrumental in organising the playing uniforms and supporter merchandise. For 9 years of weeknight and weekends for members to buy their new kit and introduced sticks and everything players needed. He made the image of the club what it is today SUHC for life!
- Worked with (for) Ron Noe around the grounds doing odd jobs as required utilising his handy man skills – I think he secretly loved using his Ryobi tools set.
- Organised and hung the pennants in the club room, showing off how well we have done.
- Umpired across the lower grades – Level 1 umpire and card giver of note
- Player for many years at both Senior Men and Masters levels
- Represented Victoria in Masters Hockey in O45’s
- Coached Southern United Juniors teams especially stepping in when the junior section could not find coaches for lower teams.
- Managed teams both at Junior, Senior and Masters levels – set up O50’s team last year.
- Founder of the Strikers Army which ran for two seasons and raised the profile and attendance of the Big Match Days within the SUHC supporter base
- Winner of the President’s Award in 2008
- Winner of the Junior Presidents ~ 2015
- Been instrumental in the development of Indoor across both SUHC and Southern suburbs. Now a very successful Summer indoor league.
- Selector for Junior State Championship teams
- Regional Co-ordinator for Southern Sharks
Describing Greg in one word
- Loyal – has stayed loyal to the club over many, many years and provided his services on committees and around the club as has been needed and called upon
- Committed – could have stopped working for the club once his parental involvement had ceased but has continued on for many years post that – Committed to hockey not just the elite side of the sport.
- Dedicated – to the development of people and the club and more broadly hockey in general
