The move to premier league for Southern’s women is a great thing for our club with both men and women now in the leading competition for Victoria. The ladies showed they were up to the task when facing 2015 finalists Hawthorn in the first match of the season. Hawthorn bristling with Vipers and ex Hockeyroos were covered by Southerns strong defence and with two goals from young Olivia Downes the Southern Women’s Premier League players came away with a very exciting draw to start the season.

The women’s premier league reserve also showed themselves up to the task also with a draw.

The Southern men had a tough day with both first and reserves beaten by Hawthorn.
