It’s been a historic week for Southern United Hockey Club. Seventeen-year-old Amy Lawton, who while juggling Year 12 commitments at Haileybury College has played 10 games for the Australian women’s hockey team, has now been named in the Hockeyroos squad for 2020. In more exciting news, Nathan Ephraums, who travelled to the Oceania Cup with the Kookaburras as an emergency earlier this year, has been named in the Australian men’s hockey squad, the Kookaburras.

Southern United Hockey Club presentation night celebrated a successful season and recognised both star performers and behindthe-scenes workers. Phoebe Willcock and Helen Ward were granted life membership of United.

Under 13 club championships finished with the girls having some great games to finish the day. The girls finished 6th for the weekend and the boys 5th. Also a huge thanks to Ewan Armstrong and Lewis Armstrong who helped the Border indoor team on Sunday. Thanks Sally for organizing this.

It was a big night of hockey last Friday with Hockey Club Melbourne taking on Canberra Chill at Melbourne’s State Netball and Hockey Centre in the Sultana Bran Hockey One League. Four Southern United players took to the pitch with 17-year-old Craig Marais making his debut for the Hockey Club Melbourne team, together with Amy Lawton and Nathan Ephraums. Manabu Yamashita — who played the season with Southern United — was part of the Canberra Chill team.
