The summer season is now well and truly underway.
The new and exciting hockey sixers is running on Wednesday evenings at Farm Rd. With four teams playing in the junior section from Southern as well as multiple teams in the Senior/mixed age, it is a happening thing at Farm Rd on Wednesdays.
Monday night sees the not so young players playing in the grand masters comp at Farm Rd, this is an extension of the Friday morning games that happen all year round. The grand finale of the grand masters will be their carnival on the 19th November, also at Farm Rd.
In the Indoor Shield competitions at MSAC the Southern teams are performing strongly. Both under 13 and under 15 after three rounds (half the competition) are undefeated, with the 13s behind Altona on goal difference, while the 15s are the only team undefeated. The 18s have had some stronger games and after four rounds have a loss, a draw and two wins, and are third on the ladder. The open men competition is a very mixed level competition ranging from Powerhouse with multiple Australian players through to some teams with no indoor experience. The Southern “men” have had one win and one loss in their two rounds so far.
The Hockey Equipe competition started with three rounds of training/practice games, and the first real rounds commenced over the last week. The under 16 team put on a good show going down to the very experienced Frankston team, which had many faces familiar to Southern. In the under 14s on Thursday night the “Boys team” finished up over Mentone, while the “girls team – with a boy” finished in a draw. The under 12s suffered the expected dramas of playing on a long weekend.
