It is that time of the year.
Congratulations to all our teams who have made finals: WPL, MPL, WPLR, MPD, WPE, WM1-S, WM1-E, U16 Boys Shield, U18 Mixed District Lightning, U14 Mixed District, Open B red, Men’s Masters 40 D, Men’s Masters 50 @ HMHC, and our Men’s 50 Masters Wednesday night.
SENIOR GRAND FINALS
Our women’s premier league are in the grand final. Premier League is the top league in the state, this is something to shout about and celebrate. Come to the State Hockey Centre on Sunday – game starts at 2.30 to cheer on these ladies.
Our women’s metro 1 teams are also in grand finals. Women’s metro 1 East play at 3pm at a Waverley, while south play at 5pm
Junior Grand Finals.
With three junior teams, all who finished fourth on the ladder in to the grand finals, it was going to be a big Friday.
At Waverley the under 14 mixed team started the night against Mornington. Finishing the game at 2-2 was a powerful statement. Moving in to a shoot out, and still equal after 5 players, it was then on to sudden death, and yes, they did it. Congratulations to Jarrod and the team. PREMIERS.
Our under 16 shield boys really took it to the Donnie team with a result they should be proud of, only going down by one goal. Congratulations to Ant, George and the team. For many of the boys it was their last year in ‘formal’ juniors, and it was really a great result
The Under 18 Lightning team, facing Frankston at Waverley, with multiple ex Southern players in the Frankston team. The team performed so well, only going down in the last minute. Congratulations Kevin, Bec and the team.
Saturday finals week 1.
A big day at Farm rd for the Delta By Design Semi finals. Minor premiers Women’s metro 1 east started slow, but made it look easy to book their grand final berth in the 2 weeks.
A tougher game for women’s metro 1 south, also minor premiers, Mentone proved too strong, but our south team have another chance next week against Cardinia.
The women’s pennant E, 3-0 up in the first 10 minutes, and it stayed that way for most of the game to finish 4-0. A prelim against minor premiers Old Xav next week.
The last game of the day, Men’s pennant D against men’s section juggernaut MCC. With some incredible work by Bryce in goals, and the boys held strong, until a goal from Tom Durrant in the 3rd quarter. This seemed to be the undoing, and from that point they held the upper hand. MCC goalie was removed at 8 minutes to go, but that didnt give MCC the power they needed and a late PC goal by Shane Campbell finished 2-0 to the boys.
While all this was happening at Farm Rd, our Women’s Premier League Reserves headed to Footscray for the 3 v 6 final, and they showed Footscray how to play the game with a 1-2 win, on to the semi final against Camberwell.
Friday finals Week 1.
What a night with our 3 teams all 4th on the ladder playing minor premiers for a place in the grand final.
Our 14 district started the night taking it to Dandenong at Dandenong, a mean feat we all know, for a 0-2 win, on to the grand final.
A tense match at the hockey centre for the 16 shield boys against KBH, saw an end of match result 1-1. With the shoot out showing our boys prowess, the 16 boys shield through to the grand final to play Donnie.
The last match of the night, 18 Lightning were ahead most of the game to only get pipped near the end of the game to take it to shoot out. The team held strong in the shoot out, through to the grand final. Can they make it a three-peat?
Week 1 Preview
Week 1 of finals we will see U14 District, Under 18 thunder and U16 Boys shield play in semi finals.
Our WPL team has the week off, while
we will have our Delta By Design Finals at Farm Rd. On Saturday we will have Women’s Metro 1 East, Women’s Metro 1 South, Women’s Pennant E, and Men’s Pennant D, While At home Sunday the boy MPL game vs KBH,
Our women’s reserves will play Saturday at Footscray.
Midweek teams will see
- Open B will play Casey at Casey in 1v 4,
- Masters 40D will play Old Carey at Old Carey Home ground in 1 v 4
- Masters 50 @ HMHC play Hawthorn at Hawthorn in 1 v 4
- Masters 50 have already played their semi final, and lost their semi final.
