Southern United is one of the premier clubs in the Victorian Hockey League with strong men’s, women’ s and junior sections, but without umpires, playing would be impossible. It is imperative that we develop our umpires who are critical to the success of the club.
This year SUHC has created a structured program called “Jump-In to Umpiring” to encourage and develop umpires. The program is primarily focused at juniors and parents who would like to learn to umpire and those who are currently umpiring and wish to develop their skills further.
Nominations are sought to participate, and numbers will be limited to 20 people to ensure we can offer a great program. We will endeavour to take an equal number of boys and girls. Parents are also encouraged to nominate.
Jacky Jacob, a Level 2 accredited umpire and a Level 1 Umpire Coach has developed the program and will run the program as well. It will be conducted over the season and will be made up of the following:
- Classroom theory sessions
- Outdoor practice sessions
- Umpiring games
- Follow me coaching
- Sideline coaching
All participants will be provided with a whistle, shirt, cap and training manual.
To join the “Jump-In” program you will need to commit to attending the workshop sessions, (2 prior to season starting and monthly sessions throughout the year and umpire at least 6 games throughout the season (either junior or senior games).
To nominate for the program please go to the Trybooking link below and enter your details.

Participation in the program is free.
