The under 12 boys team took out the gold medal, undefeated in their six games.

Officiating

Congratulations to Jacky Jacob who has achieved Level 1 Umpire Coach.

Premier League Round 17

A very windy, cold day for our big match day on Saturday. It was great to have the nice warm pulled pork and beef rolls to keep us warm.

The premier league reserves did not quite get the result they wished for with a 1-1 draw against TEM. The premier league women showed why they are second on the ladder with a 5-2 win, with three goals to Amy and Ginny once again showing her prowess in the goals. The result for the men’s first was similar 5-1, with TEMs only goal from a stroke, three goals from Matt and some lovely team work for field goals from Pim and Josh Ephraums.

The men’s reserves for TEM were three points behind Southern on the ladder, and determined to keep their position in the eight, with their firsts out of contention and proved too strong in their 5-1 win.

Men & Women’s Pennant Round 17

It was a round of ups and downs for the pennant teams on the weekend.

The women’s pennant E continued their strong form with a 2-1 win over Swinburne, this keeps their second place secure, nine points ahead of Waverley and just the one point behind Camberwell.

Women’s pennant B also at Farm Rd on Sunday had a strong draw against second placed Brumbies, this keeps their fourth place safe, six points ahead of fifth, and only three points behind Essendon.

Men’s pennant E had a night shift at Mornington on Saturday 6.30pm game but the time did not put them off and a nice 3-1 win over lowly Mornington who is facing relegation. The pennant E team that came from Pennant F in 2017 are a clear 6th, not a bad result.

The men’s pennant C team at the freezing hockey centre on Sunday showed the power of the old and young with a 5-1 win over TEM, with Jesse and Jelly both scoring two. Third on the ladder at the moment, with a tough game against MUHC next week to keep the home final.

Jesse teasing the keeper.

Men’s pennant A at home against Mentone who are fighting to stave off relegation with help from their premier league and reserves took the match 5-1. Two newcomers to men’s in the game for Southern – Will Carruthers and Dominic Eddy, and a maiden men’s section goal for Dom. Congratulations.

Men’s pennant D after their awesome just going down to Camberwell last week, suffered the cold of the hockey centre going down to top of the ladder Brumbies who need a high score difference to win their promotion to pennant C.

Men & Women’s Metro – Round 17

The Metro teams continue their success with the teams playing Collegians and Bayside on the weekend.

Men’s Metro A took on Bayside, four points ahead of them on the ladder, and with a 3-0 win to Southern, a good result next week may give Southern second spot on the ladder. The women’s metro B also at Brighton had a close game against Bayside but finished on top 3-2. They are now a massive 12 points ahead of second on the ladder.

Both Men’s metro B women’s metro A took out the points against Collegian’s.

There are lots of options available for those that are experienced indoor players through to those having their first try in this exciting version of hockey. Last Round Full Field

While it is easy to focus on who made finals for 2018, while that is great, our junior full field teams are made up of 200 players, and 23 or so coaches who have all worked and played hard this year, while most importantly having fun. The key to a good season is enjoying yourself, we hope that all have enjoyed the season, and we look forward to seeing you on presentation night, and next year.

Last round for the full field teams on the weekend and three teams have finished as minor premiers.

  • Under 16 Mixed Shield
  • Under 16 Mixed Pennant
  • Under 18 District South Red

We have another three teams playing in finals

  • Under 16 Girls Shield 4th
  • Under 14 Mixed Shield 3rd
  • Under 12 Girls Shield 2nd
  • Under 14 Mixed Pennant 3rd

There are three weeks of finals for juniors:

  • Week 1: Qualifying Final: 1v2, Elimination Final: 3v4
  • Week 2: Preliminary Final: Loser Qualifying v Winner Elimination
  • Week 3: Grand Final: Winner Qualifying Final V Winner Preliminary Final

Week 1 of Finals

Under 18 Wrap

Our first year of two under 18 teams, with the cohort of Caulfield Grammar players who came to the club, to play with their friends, in club hockey for the first time. This team has to be the success of the season, demonstrating what club hockey should be about, enjoying being with your friends, playing hockey. We hope to see you all back next year. For the team to finish with a draw for the season is a testament to the improvement of the team over the year, great work guys and girls, Chris and Steve. The other under 18 team finished as minor premiers for the season. A few of these players are also playing seniors this year, another success of the 18 program.

Under 16 Wrap

Under 16 is a huge year for juniors, although under 18 competition is a great competition to move in to, this is seen as the last fully fledged junior competition. Our six under 16 teams have had a great season, with four of them in finals, our under 16 south red team missing out by one point and the black team not far behind.

Thanks to Tracey Tingay Smith who has been our under 16 age co-ordinator, and has been an age co-ordinator for four years, her last year in juniors.

While it is easy to think of these children having played hockey “forever” with 75 children in under 16. When this cohort was in under 9 it was made up of two half field under 9 teams. Of the children in the two year cohort back in 2011, in fact twelve of those children are still playing in 2018: Billy Hanrahan, Harry Quig, Rylan Pease, Craig Marais, Andre Fernandez, Amy Lawton, and Christian van der Merwe who are top age, and Emilia Downes, Davin Walker, Halyley Lambert bottom age under 16.

Probably more impressive is the seven players in under 16 who are new to club hockey this year. A clear reminder to us all that encouraging friends and family to join the hockey community at any age is a great thing to do – Nick Langeder, Hannah Kofluk, Daniel Pardo, Mo Sha, Lalli Kirby, Sington Chan, Laura Chaplin, Adam Persic it has been great to see you join.

Under 14 Wrap

The under 14 mixed shield and pennant teams have finished third on the ladder, while the under 14 girls and under 14 south team have had a tough year. A huge thanks to Warren, Chris and Pim for the work they have done with the 14 girls and south team keeping the spirits of the teams up. Like the 16s we have had a great new group join club hockey in under 14s: David Yudko, Oscar Atkins, Sarah Connell, Tillie Steel, Zane le Beouf, Madison Langdon, Georgina Throssell – we look forward to see you all again next year.

Thanks to Alison Thomas as age co-ordinator – again.

Under 12 Wrap

The under 12 half field teams continue their season, with another three rounds to go. The full field have had a successful season. The under 12 girls shield finished second, while the young under 12 boys shield and pennant both finished sixth. The teams are young and we look forward to the next years with these players.

Sally Connor took on age co-ordinator part way through the season, thanks Sally, you have done a great job.

And the weekend

The Friday night games proved a nightmare for the age co-ordinators with many players unavailable, and most teams playing with only 11 eleven players. Thanks to all the players that helped out, and a huge call out to the Tracey and Alison as age co-ordinators for the under 14s and 16s.

At Farm Rd, sadly the 14 girls did not get a fairy tale win to finish their season. Thanks Pim and Chris for your coaching of these girls, we hope to see all the girls back next year and the season will be better, given the strong performance from under 12s last year.

The 16 girls defied the odds to beat second on the ladder TEM to snag the fourth position on the ladder and a spot at SNHC on Friday for the finals. A 3-1 win with goals to Molly, Erin and IleĀ“.

Last game of the night at Farm Rd, the under 18 Black team took on Knox with Knox too strong. For all the Caulfield Grammar players who came to us this season, it has been great having you hear, we do hope to see you again next year.

The Under 16 mixed teams fighting a lack of players did not have their best round. The under 16 shield, with the four injured players on the sideline supporting finished 1-1 with Waverley, thanks Andre for helping the shield guys out. 16 Mixed pennant suffered even more with Anthony away supporting George in Newcastle and a few other outs. The under 14 pennant team lent a hand, but went down 4-1 to Casey. While at Casey the under 14 pennant team clearly cemented their third place with a 5-0 win.

The 16 red team played the top St Bedes team, a team better suited to the pennant competition, with St Bedes taking the points. Not quite in to the finals red…. just so close. The 16 black team against the other St Bedes team just missed the points going down 2-1.

Saturday morning was its normal busy self. The half field teams have another four rounds. The under 12 district girls had the toughest morning travelling to Yarra to be told as they arrive that Yarra had forfeited. To make it worse, the same happened three weeks ago when Southern travelled to Yarra. Girls and parents, we are following up to work out how this can happen.

The under 10 half field boys are having a great term 3, with another win, this time over Camberwell. 1-0 down at half time, and a turn around to 3-1. The beauty of this team is not only seeing the improvement from the boys over the year, but also 15 year old Nick Fitzgerald coaching the team, with help from his father Iain.

The under 12 girls shield sadly had a loss to Waverley for their last home and away game, dropping them to second on the ladder. While the Under 12 boys shield did a great job to hold Essendon to 4-0. Great work Lachie Bride in goals. Under 12 pennant at Brighton went down to Bayside.

Under 12 district boys in the hail on Sunday at Albert Park. Thanks Chris Abaniel for helping out, the boys frozen solid a 1-1 draw.
