Indoor success continues for our Southern United teams. The Under 13 Boys Indoor Club Championships team coached by Michael Pearce took out the championships at Monash Uni on the weekend in a penalty shoot out against TEM. This is the second year the team has won the championships. The Under 13 girls team, with Chris Silvers coaching, won all their games prior to the gold medal match against Waverley. The gold medal match seemed one sided with the Southern girls having most of the play, but one shot on goal by Waverley found its mark giving Waverley the match. In 2016 won the final against Waverley.
The boys team consisted of Southern players: Lachlan Paice, Jacques Carstens, George Papadopoulos, Edward Fitzgerald, Ferdinand Eichhorn, Constantine Eichhorn together with visitors, Micah Quenette and the extended family group of Mitchell Harman, Kade Leigh and Harrison Leigh. The girls team consisted of: Dominique Blatherwick, Shayla Jansz, Laura Loycke, Hope Pengilly, Evie Stansby, Lulu Stansby, together with Hayley Jacobs, whose brother Tyler plays for Southern and Alyssa Azrein.
With many of the players from 2016 moving up an age group, the results are even more impressive with only three of the 2016 team playing in the 2017 team, while four of the 2016 boys played this year.
The success of the under 13 teams follows the Under 15 teams success where the boys finished 3rd after only one very close loss and the boys finished fourth. The under 18 club championships take place on the weekend fo 2nd/3rd December with Chris Silvers taking the coaching role again.
