Dear Goalkeepers and parents
As we get towards the beginning of 2013 season, we are looking to start our goalkeeping training.
- As in 2012, Dave McPherson will lead our coaching squad, bringing to bear his extensive experience and ability to really help the keepers grow. Dave has a great philosophy for teaching goalkeepers – which is to get everyone to do all of basics exceedingly well – including great positioning and angles.
- John Leighton, an experienced forward, turned keeper, has also volunteered to train our keepers. John’s goalkeeping philosophy is that he teaches keepers to do the things that keepers did to stop him scoring when he was a forward!
- Ed Arnold, one of our leading men’s keepers bases his game on pace, aggression and making sure the defenders understand what they should be doing, and will also get involved.
The combination of first grade and Victorian experience and ability amongst these three keepers is outstanding and any players coming to this training will definitely be rewarded.
We are also looking to get a few more players down to ‘hit balls’ at the keepers, allowing out coaches to focus on training, rather than having to hit all of the balls as well!
We will be holding the training sessions on Tuesdays, with a couple of sessions before the season and then once a month, as follows:
Tuesday 26 March, 6.00 to 7.00 at Farm Road
Tuesday 23 April, 6.00 to 7.00 at Farm Road
Tuesday 21 May, 6.00 to 7.00 at Farm Road (note – may move To be confirmed)
Tuesday 18 June, 6.00 to 7.00 at Farm Road
Tuesday 23 July, 6.00 to 7.00 at Farm Road
Tuesday 20 August, 6.00 to 7.00 at Farm Road
Note that Round 1 for juniors starts on Friday 26 and Sat 27 April.
Roger Arnold is organising the Goalkeeping equipment – if you have not already arranged your equipment please contact Roger on 0421 274 148 (after working hours please). We would really like you to arrange your equipment prior to the training sessions – so we can focus on training in the time in which we have our expert GK’s available.
Regards
Dave McPherson, Ed Arnold, John Leighton, Roger Arnold
