Life Members home day wrap up

On SUHC Life Members day, round 7 promised to be a big weekend for SUHC and despite the grey sky and some rain, the sun shone on Farm Road on Saturday with some remarkable and stirring performances from all SUHC teams. It was Hockey entertainment all round with SUHC’s Life Members and supporters being treated to 38 goals scored over 5 games with 23 of those in the MSL and WSL matches.

Women’s Pennant C started the day against Geelong and were unlucky to go down 2-3 after a much better performance from the girls who still have lots of potential for improvement to come.

Women’s State Leage 2 then battled with 2nd placed Albury Wodonga in what was an open and exciting game. After coming from an early 0-2 deficit, SUHC prevailed over the visitors with a well earned and very popular 6-5 home win. The Women’s State League 2 are now  3rd on goal difference just below 2nd placed Yarra  and 5 points away from frontrunners Hawthorn.

Men’s State Leage 2 followed the ladies and hosted ladder leaders Albury-Wodonga in what turned out to be an exuberantly fast and skilful encounter that produced 12 goals. SUHC finally overcame the visiting Spitfires with a 7-5 win after a pulsating goal fest of top grade hockey from both teams. The Men’s State Leage 2 team is also now 3rd on goal difference below Albury-Wodonga and only one game way for league leaders Essendon.

Men’s Pennant A got up 4-3 against MUHC to take 3rd spot on the ladder. This young team continues to develop and mature and was very impressive in its resolve to overcome the fairly highly rated “Shoppers”.

A fine afternoon was finished off by Men’s Metro 2 South defeating ECHO 2-1 to consolidate 3rd spot on the ladder.

Other results from the weekend

Women’s Pennant B beat Doncaster 1-0 to move up to either 4th or 5th depending on the Yarra/TEM result.

Men’s Pennant D drew 2 all with Brunswick, away and are just outside the four at 5th on the ladder.

Men’s Pennant E beat top team Footscray 5-2 to consolidate 2nd spot.

Mens Metro 1 South-East squandered a 3-1 lead well into the 2nd half to go down 3-4 to Knox away, and is now 8th on the ladder.
