Match Report – Womens Metro 2 – Round 11

The Met 2 Womens Team had one of their rare home games against Swinburne on Saturday & with the rain clouds looming started off really well.

They had most of the attack in the first part & with Jenny as centre forward earned a couple of short corners early, one of which came off the goalie’s pads and was put in goal by Laura. The two wings were having a good game with Meaghan & Nikki playing out wide and creating alot of chances with some bullets coming in off Nikki’s wing into the circle being unlucky not to result in a goal. We tried players in a couple of different positions which worked in some cases, but not all, yet overall the efforts in the first half were terrific. Nicole’s work supplying the ball to the forwards in the middle was really good and Loren’s work in the circle earned her a well deserved goal. There were times in the latter part of the first half and in the second half where we went a bit flat but Swinburne were very strong through the middle and had some very skilled players who made us earn the ball every time.

We had most of the attacking play in the second half, and when the ball did get into our back area having Jenny & Charlotte back there made it easier for us to get it out.  We played some very good short corners that were unlucky not to get a result but in one of our last corners Jenny hit a rocket into the right corner for our third goal & the final score, keeping us in 2nd place, less than a game behind Echo.
