Southern came out firing at the start of the game using a great forward press on the Yarra defence to put pressure on them. The Southern team combined with some great passing to put a few good goals in and win some nice corners which Tessa capitalized from, scoring 2 corners and setting up the famous “rowdy corner”. Southern went in leading 4-0 at the break.
In the 2nd half Southern was clearly beginning to tire, but continued to press on. The game became more frantic and end to end as Southerns structure and forward press started to fall apart. The Southern defence held strong and held out the Yarra forward line. Until unfortunately they the Southern team became a little complacent and let 2 goals in the last 3/4 min. It was a good result for the State League boys, and there were some very nice positives to take from the game moving forward into a tough few weeks leading into the half way point of the season.
Well done boys and bring home a few wins against the tough teams to come.
