On what was a wet & miserable morning the U11 PSE team travelled to Camberwell to play a 9.00a.m game against the 2nd placed team. The team list had 14 down for the game but by the time we got to start the match we only had 10 so it wasn’t looking good for a result.
The kids however put up a great fight and after Digby, Luka, Zoe & Michael warded off several Camberwell attacks, we couldn’t keep them out for ever & they scored a goal. We managed to get one back via Mees after a great run from the forwards, but Camberwell went 2/1 up with about 10 minutes left in the first half. Southern earned a short corner just as the whistle for half time sounded so we got to play out the corner & after a lot of scrambling, desperate play we scored a goal. We therefore went in to half time all tied up at 2 all despite having played one short in torrential rain.
The second half wasn’t as friendly but we did create a lot of chances due to some good middle of the ground work from Zoe & Luka who got the ball repeatedly to Josh, Liam, & Mees up front, but despite all the efforts the kids started to get a bit weary & Camberwell scored another 3 times to finish the game in front 5/2. Well done to the team on putting up such a great effort against a team who is 2nd on the ladder & who also had 13 players they could rotate through on the day.
