Match Report – Womens Metro 2 – Round 10

The Metro 2 womens team took on the 7th placed Knox at their home ground on Saturday evening and found a team that wanted to play an agressive style of game. Our girls had the bulk of the play early in the match but Knox still managed to sneak past our backline on a couple of occasions, only being held up by great work from Jenny & Charlotte to keep them from scoring. Great linking play from Nicole & Stephanie from the half line got the ball to the forwards a number of times and some great skills in the circle resulted in a goal to Loren who was playing as a high centre forward. Meaghan & Nikki playing wide on the wings kept driving the ball forward due to good passing from Freya & Lily on the half line. Part way through the first half we earned a short corner & a really crisp hit from Jenny resulted in our second goal but having missed a penalty stroke we went into half time 2 nil up.

In the second half we again started well with good passing and running the order of the day and we scored a goal 10 minutes in. Another 5 minutes in and Knox got a short corner which they converted to make the game 3/1 but some stellar work from Alice in goals stopped Knox a number of times. There are no easy games in this grade as the teams lower on the ladder are really trying hard to get a win, sometimes getting a bit too agressive along the way which was the case 10 minutes from the end of time with the Knox center being yellow carded for a hack on Nicole that came from the clouds. A big thanks to the women who joined the team from the Met 3’s, Charlotte, Deb & Jill slotted into the team really well. The team kept running out the game and had more chances to score that we unfortunately couldn’t convert, but they tried to the very end and came off sore but with a well deserved win.
