Match Report – Womens Metro 2 – Round 18

The Metro 2 Women took on Mornington on the weekend, a side who had us down 2/0 earlier in the year before we managed to just get home 3/2. The key for our team today was to get a good start and try & score early to put the pressure on the opposition instead of the other way around.

We followed that pretty well I think & scored inside 10 seconds. It was a newer look Mornington side this time around as they look to build a side for next year and our team are really starting to get things together in the latter part of the year. Nicole was playing a great role at Centre half directing the ball to the forwards who this week managed to make the most of their chances early and a few minutes later we had our second goal. Meghan & Stephanie as the other halves were not only stopping most of Mornington’s attacks they were also backing up the forwards really well. Laura was everywhere as an inside forward & Coxy was creating some great chances as was Nikki out wide. We went into half time 5/0 up and the work rate kept up in the second half with Lou finishing with 3 goals, Jenny & Loren 2 each and one each to Nikki & Helen.

This game was the best team play I’ve seen all year with 2 & 3 players running in support nearly every time the ball went forward & the back half keeping everything out. Jenny was solid as a rock down back & with Corinne sweeping across the ground kept the ball going in our direction for most of the game. We finished the game winning 9/0 and complete the home & away season in second place, less than a game behind top spot. Congratulations to all the girls & women who make up the Met 2 side, we’ve had a lot of fun along the way, we’ve had a great year but we want to make sure we finish it the right way over the next 2-3 weeks.
