Match Report – Womens Metro 2 – Semi Final

The Metro 2 Women took on Echo in the 2nd Semi final of the year in what was going to be an epic match. Taking on the top side at their home ground with previous resuts being a 4/1 loss and a 1/1 draw was always going to be a tough ask. Southern started off really well and for the first few minutes had the bulk of the play in our forward half, but as is Echo’s way they can very quickly get the ball back into their own attack on a fast break and did so a few times early. We managed to get the first goal through some great passing play but Echo drew level only a few minutes later with their first real attack on our circle. Going into half time 1/1 the team were very positive they could win the game and attacked the 2nd half with everything and managed to score first about half way into the half. The game was very fast and very even all day & could have gone either way but Southern kept fighting all day and held on for a 2/1 win.
We are therefore into the Grand Final WOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Thank you to everyone who has played in the team all year, you have all contributed to getting the Met 2 team into the final and the way you have all gone about it has been an absolute pleasure to watch you play. The club, yourselves, families & friends should be really proud of how you have represented Southern throughout the year & as coach it’s been very easy to work with such a happy, positive, hard working group of women & girls. Every single one of you has improved different aspects of your game during the year meaning that as the pressure increased so did you efforts. I would also like to say a BIG thank you to the families & other club members who came down to watch & support the team on the weekend, it was fantastic to see you there & a real buzz for the team to hear you throughout the game & it really gave them a lift when it counted. GO SOUTHERN…..
