Match Report – Womens Pennant B – Round 10

Thunk!  The ball hits the top of the backboard and then runs up the net. Alison has dived to her right but the ball has been flicked from the seven yard spot over her leg and into the goal.

5 minutes to go and the hard work that the team as put in has not been rewarded.  Up until the final ten minutes the game was evenly poised with both teams having opportunities in front of the goal.  Southerns inability to capitalise on penalty corners just highlighted their bad luck in front of goal.

The game was played at a fast pace and there were some great passages of play down the wings and the strong tackling across the half line and the backs continued to repel Essendons attack.  In the final ten minutes Essendon got on top and bombarded the circle.  The penalty stroke was the result of one of those attacks.

The team was understandably disappointed and are looking to bounce back next week.

Essendon won 1-0.
