Match Report – Womens Pennant C – Round 15

I should probably write one of these myself rather than just put everyone else’s up.

So, we were on a roll winning the last two games against TEM and Altona. It was the battle to get out of last place between us and MCC. We were determined but with yet another different team line up it was going to be interesting. Things started off well, we won the toss! Yay! Let’s go into the sun for the first half. Hang on, where did the sun go? Oh well, nice plan anyway. We started the game very strongly. With Shandelle in the centre of the field distributing the ball well to the forwards. Everyone was marking up their players on turn overs and MCC barely got into the circle for the entire first half! Shandelle scored off of a short corner about half way through. We went into the break 1 – 0 up and goalie touches nil (unless you count collecting the ball from the backline).

Second half started very similar to the first half with us dominating the play but not able to finish it off and get the ball in the back of the net. MCC had a few more penetrations into the D and I managed to completely stuff up a slide tackle fortunately Julie saved my bacon and stopped the ball on the goal line as they waltzed around me. Oops! Vanessa Morrow was doing a lot of work getting the ball up into our attack and working with Lily, Ashleigh and Shona to keep the ball in attack. Now, I know there was a thumping goal from Ash and I also believe that Shona cherry picked one off of Ash (although she said Ash could claim it). I can’t exactly remember them. Blame it on being too far away at the other end.

Final score 3 – 0, goalie touches 4 (I stuffed the slide tackle up so badly I didn’t even get a touch in!) and we’re officially off the bottom of the ladder! Woot! Only 1 point off of getting to 7th. Let’s go girls!
