Going into this final the girls knew it was going to be tough, physical hard fought out match, and we weren’t wrong. With a solid game plan, we knew if we executed what Lazy had discussed we would come away with the win and secure a place in the grand final against top of the table, Hawthorn.
Not everything went to plan as Powerhouse scored the first goal off one of their infamous long balls to a roaming high striker who successfully put the ball past our diving goalkeeper and full backs, taking them to a 1 nil lead into half time. But it wasn’t long into the second half that we fought back, when Danni put away an impressive field goal off the goalies pads taking the score line to a even 1 all.
It remained a goal apiece all the way to the full time siren, again putting us into golden goal, a situation where we are becoming all too familiar. However, this time around we only needed a mere 3 minutes before Olivia Finlayson won a free hit outside the circle, ran the back line, delivered the ball across goals to Tamsin Nelson who ever so calmly put the ball in the back of the net – taking us though to our fist grand final as SUHC. An awesome team effort!!!
All the girls played really well, but a shout out should go to Shan who played a tagging role on one of the high scorers of the competition, Shan was all over her opponent and marked her out of the game, stellar effort Shany!!!!
So if you’re free this Sunday morning, (kick off is at 9:30) come and help support us against a strong outfit of Hawthorn, whom haven’t dropped a game all season, followed by our Men’s State League Grand Final against Albury at 11:30. It’s a great time to come and support your club!!!
