Match Report – Women’s State League 2 vs Albury – Round 7

This game was a massive challenge for the group and would be critical in shaping our season so there was a lot on the line. Albury were 2nd on the ladder after coming down from SL1 and we could take their spot if we won this game so both teams came out firing early on.

I thought we had the better of the first 10  minutes but the score board didn’t reflect that and Albury hit 2 goals against the run of play and the game was slipping away from us pretty quickly. To the girls credit we fought back and levelled the score and went into the break 3-3 I think, it was a bit of a blur to tell you the truth. At half time we refocused and talked about the plan and really wanted to be bold and take the game on across the board. The 2nd half was some excellent hockey from both sides and again was a blur as there were 5 goals scored, yellow card a stroke and Celine flying through the air twice. We went to 6-4 that’s right people 6-4 but that wasn’t the end of it Albury scored to make it 6-5 with 3minutes to go and the pressure was squaring back on us again, we managed to hold them out with some really composed possession from the back.

It was a really great all around effort from everyone and now we shift our focus to KEW this week which is another crunch game.
