State League round up of Round 17 results

Men’s State League 2 played Kew at a cold and blustery SNHC and drew 1 all after leading for most of the game. It was an entertaining affair of end to end hockey which SUHC seemed to have in its control but in the last 5 minutes Kew substituted out their goalie and went the full press with 11 field players looking for the equaliser…which they found. SUHC tried valiantly to pinch the lead back with a couple of corners after the final whistle but couldn’t break through a desperate Kew defence. This result leaves SUHC third on the ladder behind Albury Wodonga with Kew in fourth position.

The equation is now very simple, to finish second SUHC must beat MUHC and rely on Essendon to beat or draw Albury at Albury in round 18. A loss will see SUHC fall to fourth if Kew beats Powerhouse/St K. So it is all there to play for!!

Women’s State League 2 also played Kew at the SNHC and at the same time and suffice to say that the girls won 6-0 in a dominant display. WSL is now 3rd on the ladder and play top team Hawthorn this week. The final four equation for WSL2 is a little more complicated and it will come down to the results of other games and most likely goal difference to determine who makes up the final four with 3 teams vying for 3rd and 4th spot. A solid performance from our girls against should see them in the four and ready for finals in September.
