Southern United Hockey Club

Weekend Wrapup – June 23rd/24th

WSL

Started proceedings at Farm Road on Saturday against bottom team Baw Baw. In a game that didn’t reach any great heights, SUHC finally overcame the dogged visitors  who remained camped in their own 23 for most of the game with 11 players behind the ball, 4-0. While the scoreline was a little below par, this win was important and win has propelled WSL back into 4th spot, which they need to consolidate over the next few weeks with road trips to Bendigo and Ballarat.

MSL

In similar fashion MSL dominated possession against last placed Monash University but struggled reflect this on the scoreboard. In a lack lustre game, the visiting Farmers were probably quite satisfied with the final 5-0 scoreline in SUHC’s favour who equally were less than delighted with a performance that was below their expectations. Still 3 points are 3 points and MSL has moved to 3rd on equal points with Albury/Wodonga.

MPE

Came up against Dandenong Warrior’s seconds and came back to earth after flying high for the past few weeks with a 2-5 loss which has knocked them from first to second on the ladder.  No panic stations here, merely a minor reality check which should be overcome in the coming weeks.

MM2S

Rounded off the day hosting St Bedes in the local derby but succumbed 1-3 to the visitors to head to 4th on the ladder.

In other results:

MPD was beaten 4-5 by MUHC away to slip to 4th on the ladder.

MPA lost 0-1 away to Altona and are now placed 4th.

WPB lost 0-1 narrowly to Essendon to drop to 6th.

MM1SE were toweled up by league leaders Casey 2-8 and need to get a win or two soon to navigate clear of the drop zone.
