Southern United Hockey Club

Weekend Wrapup – June 2nd/3rd

After a big high cometh the big low.

Not a good day for either MSL or WSL on Saturday for round 8 at the SHNC. Both sides played Kew and both squandered chances to put away their opponents through lacklustre performances with disappointing losses resulting.

MSL

Started very well against a speedy and skilful Kew outfit and played some precise first half hockey to go into the break in front deservedly, 1-0. The second half was a vastly different story with SUHC wasting possession through inaccurate  passing enabling Kew to quickly draw level and then steal a goal for the match 1-2. An unhappy result which sees SUHC drop to 4th, 6 points adrift from the league leaders Essendon.

WSL

Started poorly yielding an early goal but managed to work back into the game to even things up soon after and remain on par with Kew for most for the game. Neither Kew nor SUHC were impressive with both sides rarely stringing passes together and both regularly turning over the ball which resulted in counterattack scoring opportunities.  SUHC’s defence proved to be the more brittle of the two teams and Kew prevailed 3-4. WSL are now 4th on the ladder.

In other results…

MPA

Took on top side Camberwell at home and led 2-0 at half time only to end up sharing the points 2-2. While this was yet another solid performance from this young team, no doubt they will have been disappointed not to get the 3 points against such highly rated opposition. MPA remain 3rd on the ladder.

WPB

Fought and fought against top team Camberwell to go down 0-1, but the signs are good for this young side who are now 7th for better results to come.

MPD

Trounced MHSOB 8-0 to stay 3rd  on the ladder in a tightly contested grade.

MPE

Secured top spot with 7-1 victory over Hawthorn.

WPC

Went down 0-2 to Kew.
