As we head toward the big day, it is easy to forget where we came from. Let’s look at some of our players who have a long history with the club, making Sunday so much more special for them.
Ash Jones Number 7: Ash has played a massive 515 games for Southern United, having come from Moorabbin as a tiny little junior. Ash was in in the 2013 Vic League 1 reserves premiership team and then the 2014 Vic League 1 premiers, and the 2015 Vic League 1 runners up team which was the team that moved our women to Premier League in 2016.
Emily Hamilton Smith Number 10: Emily joined us in our under 14s and has been a powerhouse in our junior teams and women’s teams ever since. Part of our Under 16 mixed shield runners up in 2018 and premiers in 2019.
Georgia Elston Number 15: Georgia’s 341 games with s has include a huge 175 premier league games and 63 junior games. A member of our first ever shield premiership team – under 13 girls in 2011 and then premierships in 2012 – under 13 girls shield, 2013 Under 14 girls shield, 2014 Under 16 girls shield, and 2015 Under 16 Girls shield. That is an unbelievable 5 shield premierships. Georgia was part of our 2015 VL1 Runners Up team, the step to Premier League.
Charley Malligan. Like Georgia, Charlie was part of our super girls shield team from 2011 to 2015 which won 5 premierships. Charley was also a member of the 2015 VL1 Runners Up team,
Laura Johnson Number 23. LJ has played 350 games for Southern including 175 Premier League games and 39 junior games. LJ was part of the 2013 VL1R premiers, 2014 VL1 Premiers, 2015 VL1 Runners Up.
Molly O’Neill Number 24. Molly was part of our inaugural under 12 girls team in 2014, the team finished as minor premiers and then finished as premiers in 2015 in under 12 and premiers in 2017 in under 14s and the 2019 under 16 mixed pennant premiers. Molly has had an break out year scoring 12 goals throughout the year in premier league.
Josie Lawton Number 43. Josie joined us as an under 11 player, and has been a key member of every team she has been in. When we look at her team’s junior records it is impressive: 2015 Under 12 Mixed Shield premiers. 2017 Under 14 Mixed Shield runners up, 2018 Under 16 Mixed shield premiers, 2019 Under 16 Mixed shield premiers. Josie was also part of the indoor club championships team that won the HV club championships for many years.
Bec McNess: younger than the others Bec was a member of the under 18 premiers in 2024, then a co-coach to take them to the flag in 2025, and runners up in 2026. Bec has played 272 games for the club with 103 in premier league.
Larissa Boshoff: Like Bec a member of the under 18 premiers in 2024, part of our under 14 girls runners up in 2019 and a coach of our under 14 girls this year, 2018 runners up under 12 girls shield.
Megan Alkalus Number 37: Megan returned to us in 2024, but many may not know Megan played with Moorabbin back in 2000 to 2005.
