Southern United swept to back-to-back men’s Premier League titles when it routed Footscray 5-0 at the State Netball and Hockey Centre on Saturday. United had stunned the Victorian hockey scene last year in taking out the premiership, and it proved it was no fluke by finishing as minor premier in 2019. A loss in the first final against Footscray was a setback, but strong wins in weeks two and three of the finals series brought Southern up against Footscray in the last match of the season. From the first push back, the result did not seem in doubt with the frenetic work rate of the team.

The 2-1 result to Southern pushed Camberwell out of the grand final, the first time it has missed the season decider since 2011.
